    Casa Loma Guide

Casa Loma Homes for Sale - TorontoFORSale.com from Lauretta Stewart on Vimeo.

    History

This neighbourhood received its name from one of Toronto's most distinct attractions. 300 men worked for 3 years to build the dream home of Sir William Henry Mill Pellatt:  they finished Casa Loma, a medieval castle inspired home, in 1911. After only 10 years, the city foreclosed on the property, subdividing the parcel of land. Many elegant Tudor, Edwardian & Georgian style homes were built. Later additions include some duplexes and luxury condos and town homes.

    Present

Nestled on the brow of the Avenue Road Hill, and surrounded by ravines and parkland, this residential enclave looks and feels more like an enchanted forest filled with storybook homes, than the big-city neighbourhood it really is.

    Homes

Casa Loma's large Tudor, Georgian, Edwardian, and English Cottage style homes were built mostly between 1905 and 1940. The houses on the south side of Lyndhurst Court enjoy a spectacular view of Toronto's skyline and Lake Ontario. Many homes in this neighbourhood back onto the Nordheimer ravine, a forest of mature oak and maple trees.

In addition to single family houses, the Casa Loma neighbourhood contains a mix of duplex and triplex houses, luxury townhouses, condominiums and co-ownership apartment buildings.

    Shopping

The closest shopping is in the St. Clair and Bathurst area, centering on the Loblaws grocery centre. Sir Winston Churchill Park is close by and includes 10 flood-lit tennis courts, a playground and a running path that circles the park. Public, private and Catholic schools are in the area.

    Transportation

Easy to access by public transportation: busses, streetcars and subway all service the community, and motorists are conveniently connected to Bathurst St. and St. Clair Avenue.
